Men’s Golf in Volunteer State for Tennessee River Rumble

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's golf team is in Louden, Tenn., for the second annual Tennessee River Rumble Intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial on Monday and Tuesday at the prestigious Tennessee National Golf Club.

This year's Tennessee River Rumble field features players from 12 different institutions, with six representing the South Atlantic Conference. Along with the host Railsplitters, Anderson, Brevard, Carson-Newman, Catawba and Tusculum will be competing in the 36-hole event. In addition, Hillsdale College, Taylor University, University of Findlay, Washburn University, Dalton State and Walters State Community College will also be vying for the Tennessee River Rumble title.

North Greenville captured the inaugural Tennessee River Rumble title in 2014, firing rounds of 286 and 301 to finish with a two-round total of 587 (+11), edging out Walters State by three strokes. Host Lincoln Memorial finished fourth in the event with 303+306=609 (+33). Led by Sean Shelton, the Trojans finished ninth a year ago.

North Greenville's Tucker MacDonald captured individual medalist laurels by posting rounds of 73 and 71 to card an even par total of 144. MacDonald beat out Lee's Taylor Davis and Walters State's Brad Hawkins - who has since transferred to Tusculum - by a single stroke.

Shelton (77-76=153) closed the two-day event in 21st, while fellow senior Arran Setro (84-80=164) finished 11 shots further back in 45th. David Wachter carded a 21-over-par 165 and earned a share of 46th, with Rob Warren (86-80=166) making the biggest jump by slashing six strokes off the opening round to finish in 49th. CJ Messana (89-84=173) finished in 56th.

Designed by Greg Norman, Tennessee National Golf Club plays out to 7,400 yards and features scenic views of Watts Bar Lake. It was noted as one of the top 10 golf experiences in Tennessee.

Live stats will be available via BirdieFire, with scores updated at the halfway point and conclusion of the round. Tee times will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday. The Tennessee River Rumble comes to a close with an 18-hole round on Tuesday.
