LOUDEN, Tenn. - The Anderson University men's golf team trimmed 28 strokes from Monday's opening round, as the Trojans posted the largest improvement of the 14-team field and wrapped up their regular season by tying for 12th place at the second annual Tennessee River Rumble Intercollegiate.
The two-day event was hosted by Lincoln Memorial at the Tennessee National Golf Club's par 72, 7163 yard layout.
The host Railsplitters (304-289=593) led the tourney wire-to-wire and captured the team title by nine shots over Dalton State (310-292=602), which lept from fourth into the runner-up spot. Brevard (309-302=611), which was nine strokes further back, remained third following Tuesday's final round.
Anderson (337-309=646) and Lincoln Memorial (C) (335-311=646) trailed Lincoln Memorial (B) (310-331=641) by five strokes and led Findlay (341-316=657) by 11 shots.
LMU's Braden Galyon captured individual medalist honors with a two-day 1-under-par 143, edging Dalton State's Sean Elliott (748-69=147), Carson-Newman's Andrew Hall (77-70=147) and Catawba's Matt Hardman (70-77=147) by four strokes.
Anderson freshmen Alex Merriman (85-74=159) slashed 11 strokes from Monday's opening round and jumped from a share of 60th into a tie for 35th. Fellow freshman Forrest Fowler (85-76=161) went from sharing the 60th slot into a tie for 44th, alongside junior David Wachter (83-78=161).
Sophomore Payton Whitlock (84-81=165) earned a share of 56th, with junior Rob Warren rounding out the Black and Gold contingent with a two-day 171.
The Trojans have a three-week layoff before competing in the South Atlantic Conference Championship, April 19-21 at the Firethorn Country Club in Marvin, N.C.
