TAZEWELL, Tenn. - With a pair of golfers posting their lowest rounds of the fall season, the Anderson men's golf team sits in a tie for ninth place following Monday's opening two rounds of the State Farm Intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial at the 6,771 yard, par 72 Woodlake Golf Club.
The two-day event is scheduled for 54 holes, with 36 slated for today and 18 holes in Tuesday's final round.
Host Lincoln Memorial (278-288=566) leads the 12-team tourney by four shots over second-place Carson-Newman (281-289=570), while Dalton State (287-285=572) is two strokes further back. Tusculum (291-287=578), Lenoir-Rhyne (294-297=591) are fourth and fifth, respectively, with Lincoln Memorial (B) (293-303=596) in sixth.
Mars Hill (299-300=599) holds the seventh spot, while Lincoln Memorial (D) (302-298=600) is eighth, with Anderson (305-299=604) and Catawba (303-301=604) sharing ninth. Lincoln Memorial (C) (301-306=607) and Walters State (310-299=609) round out the field.
LMU's Braden Galyon (64-70=134) leads the chase for individual medalist honors by two shots over Tusculum's Brad Hawkins (69-67=136). Dalton State's Sean Elliott (67-70=137) and Carson-Newman's Andrew Hall (68-69=137) are tied for third.
Alex Merriman's two-round 148 marked the freshman's best effort
of the young season and placed him 23rd, while fellow freshman
Forrest Fowler (74-76=150) is in a tie for 36th entering Tuesday's
final round. Junior David Wachter (76-75=151) is one stroke further
back and is tied for 38th, with sophomore Payton Whitlock carding a
two round 155 and sitting in a tie for 49th. Sophomore Rob Warren
(81-79=160) rounds out the Trojan contingent in a tie for 62nd.
Tuesday's final round is set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
