Limestone Eliminates Anderson From Tournament

WILSON, N.C. -- Mark Gardner and Darius Pullen combined for five hits, four runs, and five RBI to lead Limestone to an 8-6 victory over Anderson College in the first round of the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference baseball tournament Friday afternoon at Fleming Stadium. Limestone, 24-21 overall, advances to play the winner of the Mount Olive-Longwood game. Because of a single-elimination format in the first two rounds, the loss eliminates Anderson, 31-22 overall, from the tournament. The loss was Anderson's seventh in its last eight games. Gardner was 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Pullen was 2 for 5 with three RBI, and two runs scored. The Saints scored four runs in the first inning against Anderson starter Donnie Fetner, who allowed eight hits and six runs, five earned, in three innings. Anderson scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 6, but from that point, Limestone reliever Jason Gold shut down the Trojans. Gold allowed just one hit and struck out three in the final 4 1/3 innings. Limestone scored what proved to be the winning runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run homer by Pullen. Limestone outhit Anderson, 15-8. The Saints had three doubles and two homers. F.A. Vildosola hit a home run for Anderson.
