Three Players, Miller Honored By CVAC

THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Three Anderson College players and head coach Joe Miller all received post-season honors from the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Friday. Senior pitcher Nick Wates and junior outfielder Jason Ratliff both were named to the All-CVAC first team, sophomore first baseman F.A. Vildosola was named to the All-CVAC second team, and Miller was named CVAC Coach of the Year. Wates, a native of Edgefield, S.C., finished the regular season as the nation's leading reliever with 12 saves. He entered the CVAC Tournament 6-2 with an ERA of 2.35. In 46 innings, he struck out 49, walked 15, and allowed 37 hits. Ratliff, a junior from Prosperity, S.C., led Anderson in batting with a .378 average. He had 14 doubles, four triples, one home run, and drove in 41 runs. He also stole 31 bases in 39 attempts. Vildosola, a sophomore from Pembroke Pines, Fla., batted .335 with 19 doubles, two triples, four homers, and 33 RBI. In the field, Vildosola made just four errors in 416 chances. Miller led the Trojans to their second consecutive winning season. Since 1997, he has a record of 191-180-1 and has led the Trojans to five winning seasons in his seven years as head coach of the four-year program.
