ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University hoops standouts Alexy Mollenhauer and Shawn Benard have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of December.
Mollenhauer averaged a team-high 20 points and nine rebounds per game while earning her fifth double-double of the season. The Lindale, Texas native was 30-of-58 (51.7 percent) from the field and 13-of-28 (46.4 percent) from behind the arc. Mollenhauer dished out five assists while being credited with five steals and five blocks over the four game span.
She is first in the South Atlantic Conference in points (19.8 ppg.) and third in rebounds (11.3 ppg.) and third in three-point percentage (48.6), reaching double-digit scoring in all four contests, including a season-high 29 points in the away win over nonconference rival Erskine.
A native of Mobile, Ala, Benard helped lead the men's basketball team to a 4-1 record during the month, as the Trojans were a perfect 4-0 at the Abney Athletic Center in December and closed out the calendar year with a three-game win streak.
Benard captured AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in early December, after leading the Trojans to a 75-71 win over Carson-Newman. The 5-foot-11 guard poured in a career-high 29 points, while hauling in 10 rebounds with four assists, two steals and a block in the victory. He shot 52.4 percent from the floor, while hitting 42.9 percent from three-point range in the win.
On the month, Benard averaged nearly 17 points and six assists per game, while shooting 47 percent from the field. He is currently second in the conference in assists per game, 12th in scoring and 19th in rebounds per contest.
