Softball’s Kayson Boatner and Men’s Track’s Philip Quillen Named to the AFCU Gold Standard

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University softball first baseman Kayson Boatner and men's track standout Philip Quillen have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of February.

Boatner helped lead the Trojans to a 14-4 overall record and a perfect 2-0 SAC slate during the month. The native of Fortson, Ga., collected 22 total hits, including five doubles and eight home runs. The sophomore first baseman drove in 27 runs and crossed the plate on 16 occasions, while boasting a stellar .864 slugging percentage.

She is currently tied for the league lead in home runs, ranks second in RBI and slugging percentage and is sixth in the SAC with 51 total bases.

Quillen, who posted personal-bests among several notable performances throughout the month, began the month by claiming fourth place in the men's 3,000 meters in a personal-record 8:39.41 at ETSU's Buccaneer Invitational and followed up by slashing more than 30 seconds off his previous personal-best by finishing eighth in the 5,000 meters at Grand Valley State's Big Meet in a qualifying heat in a career-best time of 15:00.21.

Quillen a native of Spartanburg, S.C., claimed 27th place in a personal-best time of 4:28.29 in the mile run at South Carolina's Indoor Open and paced five Trojans in the 5,000 meter finals at the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships by crossing the finish line in fifth place in a time of 15:16.35.

The sophomore capped off the month by finishing sixth in the men's 3,000 meters at the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships in a time of 8:42.45.

Quillen owns AU's top marks this season in both the 3,000m and the 5,000m.
