Similton Finishes Top-15; Trojans Take Fifth at NCAA Southeast Regional

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Senior Daniel Similton (Indian Trail, N.C.) posted a team high 15th place finish as the Anderson University men's cross country team picked up a fifth-place finish as a team at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet hosted by the University of North Georgia on Saturday, November 4.

The Trojans finished in fifth place, recording 196 team points and was the third highest placing team from the South Atlantic Conference at the event. Wingate picked up the top spot at the championship with 15 points while Augusta took the runner-up spot at 76 points. Catawba was the only other SAC team to finish in front of the Trojans as they took third with 95 points.

"Our men put themselves into the race early on and just fell short at the end," said head coach Kevin Eagle. This was five of our seven runners' first ever 10K race, so inexperience played a role for sure. I'm proud of how they fought and put it on the line. We will build on this experience for future years."

Similton led the Trojans with his 15th place finish with a time of 30:22.9. Freshman Sean McAdams (Greenville, S.C.) finished with a time of 31:14.0, good enough for 33rd in the event. Junior Ty Nelson (Moore, S.C.) notched a 43rd place finish with a mark of 31:42.0. Freshman Jake Dentler (Traveler's Rest, S.C.) and junior David Williams (Columbia, S.C.) finished right next to each other with Dentler coming in 52nd and Williams taking home 53rd.

Senior Jonathan Roberts (Moore, S.C.) and freshman Jack Barrett (Greenville, S.C.) rounded out the placing for Anderson in the event as they finished 64th and 83rd, respectively.

Similton has a chance to be selected as an individual at-large bid for the NCAA National Championship with his placing at the regional event. Final selections for the National Championship will be released on Monday, November 6.
