Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at Converse Kickoff

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Anderson University men's cross country team finished third in the Converse Kickoff on Saturday (Sept. 16) to open up the 2023 season. The Trojans entered the weekend with a national ranking of 26th and the second ranked team in the southeast region in the latest USTFCCCA polls.

"It was great to finally see some outside competition for the first time this season," said coach Kevin Eagle. "We have been training hard for over a month, so it is always nice to get on a course and race. Both teams have a lot of work to do to progress to where we want to be at the end of the year. We are all excited about the process!"

Emory University won the meet with a score of 40 and total team time of 2:08:03. Berry College (2:08:39) came in second with 68 points. Anderson was third (2:09:31) with a score of 73 and scoring order of 4-11-17-20-21(28)(32).

Ty Nelson led the way for the Trojans by taking fourth place with a time of 25:29.7. Graduate student Daniel Similton finished just outside the top-10 for 11th place at a pace of 25:42.3. Senior Jonathan Roberts (26:02.9) came in 18th while freshmen Sean McAdams (26:07.0) and Jake Dentler (26:08.9) took 21st and 22nd respectively.

David Williams finished in the top-30 as he ran a 26:20.1. Dylan Lego (27:14.8) and Adam Trusty (27:48.3) represented the sophomore class. Freshmen Nathan Smith (26:25.9), Jack Barrett (26:37), and Noah Stump (27:43.6) ran for the Trojans to total five freshmen participating in the season opening meet.

The Trojans will be back in action on September 30th for the NCAA Regional Preview in Oakwood, Georgia. More information can be found at autrojans.com as the meet approaches.
