Men’s Cross Country Finishes 16th at Royals Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In its final tune-up for the South Atlantic Conference Championships, the Anderson University men's cross country team finished 16th overall and eighth among NCAA Division II squads at the Royals Challenge, hosted by Queens, Friday afternoon at McAlpine Creek Park

Sophomore Mason Hazel covered the 8K distance in a season-best time of 25:08.9 to claim 21st place. Junior Ben Boerma slashed nearly two minutes off his time at the Royals Challenge a season ago with a time of 26:50.5, and placed 108th. Junior Ned Kennedy (26:58.3) finished 119th after trimming nearly a minute from his time at the Bulldog Stampede two weeks ago.

Junior Michael Burch crossed the line in a time of 27:35.2, which was 58 seconds faster than a year ago, and placed 148th, with freshman John Drummond (28:23.1) finishing 194th. Junior Jesse Patrick cut more than a minute from his time at the 2014 Royals Challenge, with a time of 28:39.5 and finished 205th.

Following a two-week break, the Trojans will compete in the SAC Championships, hosted by Lincoln Memorial on Oct. 24 in Pineville, Ky.
