Men’s Cross Country Finishes Ninth at Furman Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Led by sophomore Mason Hazel's 20th-place finish, the Anderson men's cross country team finished ninth at the third annual Furman Cross Country Classic, hosted by the Paladins, Saturday morning at the Furman University Golf Course.

Competing in a field of 19 non-Division I NCAA collegiate teams, the Trojans improved on their 19th-place finish from a year ago on the tough 8K course in Greenville.

"The men ran tough," said Anderson head coach Kevin Licht. "We were short-handed today as Michael Burch was unable to race, but the team responded well and several ran personal bests."

Hazel posted a time of 26:22.96, while junior Ben Boerma crossed the finish line in a time of 27:17.85, which was more than 22 seconds faster than his time a year ago. Fellow junior Ned Kennedy (27:32.97) slashed more than two minutes off his time from a year ago and claimed 52nd, with junior Jesse Patrick
cutting 1:47 off his 2014 time to place 67th in a time of 28:08.85.

Redshirt freshman John Drummond (29:51.91) and newcomer Mark Bradley (30:58.72) finished 112th and 133rd, respectively.

Following a two-week layoff, Anderson will get back in action Saturday, Sept. 26, when the Trojans are slated to compete in the Bulldog Stampede, hosted by Wingate.
