James Named South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Basketball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After coming off the bench to pour in a career-high 27 points in the road win over Catawba and following up by netting 26 points in the win over UVa-Wise, freshman guard Crosby James II has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday morning.

The freshman has posted career-high scoring efforts in two of the last three games and was just two points shy of notching his third straight career afternoon two days ago against UVa-Wise.

A native of Columbia, S.C., James averaged 26.5 points per game for the week on 17-of-23 (73.9%) shooting from the field, including 8-of-9 (88.9%) accuracy from beyond the arc.

After coming off the bench to net a then-career high 24 points against Lincoln Memorial on Jan. 18, the 6-foot guard poured in a career-best, game-high 27 points on 8-of-12 shooting and went a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc in AU's, 92-91, road win over Catawba last Wednesday night. James followed up by scoring a game-high 26 points in the Trojans' win over the Cavaliers. He was 9-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-4 from long range.

James has seen action in 16 games this season, while averaging more than nine points per game on the year. He is sixth in the league in three-point shooting accuracy (41.9%) and ranks 10th in field-goal accuracy (55.3%).

The weekly honor is the first for James and the first since senior guard Shawn Benard earned the accolade in early December.

The Trojans will get back on the hardwood Wednesday night, when Queens invades the Abney Center. Tip-off versus the Royals is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
