Men’s Basketball Readies for Exhibition Contest at Clemson

ANDERSON, S.C. – With the regular season close on the horizon, the Anderson University men's basketball team is set to tip off the 2019-20 campaign by traveling the short distance to Littlejohn Coliseum to face Clemson in an exhibition contest, Wednesday night.

Tip-off versus the Tigers is slated for 7 p.m.

Last year's campaign saw Anderson earn its third straight appearance in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament and its seventh overall appearance since joining the league in 2010. The Trojans wrapped up last season with a 16-13 overall record, including a 10-10 mark in conference action and claimed the most wins at the Abney Athletic Center since the 2012-13 season.

The preseason contest will mark the first time the Trojans and Tigers have met on the hardwood during AU Head Coach Jeff Brookman's five-year tenure and the second time overall in program history, with AU dropping a 62-36 decision to the Orange and Purple prior to the 2014-15 regular season.

AU stunned the College of Charleston, 65-49, early in the 2012-13 season in the Trojans' only other exhibition contest versus a Division I opponent in recent history.

Clemson played host to Conference Carolinas-member Barton in a preseason contest last season, defeating the Bulldogs, 89-80, in early November en route to posting a 20-14 overall record and going 9-9 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a ninth-place finish in the ACC. The Tigers went on to advance to the second round of the 2019 NIT before falling, 63-55, to Wichita State.

Clemson is slated to open the regular season with a five-game homestand, beginning with ACC-opponent Virginia Tech on Tuesday, while the Trojans will square off against Lander on Friday, Nov. 8, in St. Augustine, Fla.
