Garrity Resigns to Accept Head Coaching Job at Wofford

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University Head Women's Basketball Coach Jimmy Garrity has resigned to accept the head coaching position at NCAA Division I Wofford.

"Jimmy Garrity continued a tradition of success with a consistent winning program while at Anderson University and the reputation that our women's basketball program has achieved is directly related to his leadership and coaching," said Director of Athletics Bill D'Andrea. "The care he provided for his players was exceptional. We wish Jimmy all the best and thank him for a tremendous job. He is leaving our program in great shape."

Garrity, who assumed the reigns of the Trojans' women's basketball program prior to the 2013-14 season, compiled an overall record of 66-26 and 49-17 in South Atlantic Conference play.

"Anderson women's basketball has enjoyed tremendous success and I will forever be grateful for the effort and commitment that our players have put forth on the court, in the classroom and in the community over the past three years," said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "More than anything I will miss the relationships with these special young women and I look forward to continuing to support them in all that they do."

Garrity led the 2016 Trojans to a 23-7 overall record and an 18-4 league record winning the regular season SAC title, while earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. Anderson placed three on all-conference teams, highlighted by Jennifer Monroe earning the SAC Player of the Year honor.

Stringing together one of the program's best seasons in 2014-15, Garrity was tabbed South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year, becoming the second AU coach to earn the yearly honor. Garrity led the Trojans to a 27-5 overall record and a berth into the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. Prior to the postseason run, Garrity became the first coach in conference history to win 20 league games, finishing the season with a 20-2 SAC record and a regular-season championship. Garrity also saw starting point guard Sierra Simpson earn SAC Player of the Year and SAC First Team honors, while Lesley Woods and Jasmine Franklin were listed on the SAC Honorable Mention list.

Garrity led the Trojans to a 16-14 overall record an 11-11 mark in SAC play in his first year with the Trojans. After earning the No. 6 seed in the SAC Tournament, the Trojans shocked the league with a 71-64 overtime win over third-seeded Lincoln Memorial, earning a spot in the conference semifinals where they fell to eventual tournament champion, Wingate. Under Garrity, AU placed three on all-conference teams, including Simpson's All-SAC second team honor and Alexis Dillard's all-freshman team spot.

"I would like to thank Dr. Whitaker, Nancy Simpson and Bill D'Andrea for giving me the opportunity to coach a special group of student-athletes at Anderson University," added Garrity. "This university and athletic department is a special place where my family and I have thoroughly enjoyed being Trojans.
