Trojans Survive Comeback Bid from Emmanuel, Down Lions 6-5

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -- After putting up six runs in the top of the second inning, the Anderson University (11-7) baseball team was able to survive a late push by the Lions of Emmanuel University (11-10) on the road on Tuesday, March 5, taking the win 6-5.

Sophomore Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) and senior Kevin Sosa (Deltona, Fla.) each were able to record a pair of RBIs in the contest to lead the Trojans. Junior Anthony Pandolfi (Hicksville, N.Y.) was also able to chip in an RBI in his lone hit of the day. Freshman Zach Stover (Powdersville, S.C.) led the team at the dish with a pair of hits in the game. In a bullpen day for the Black and Gold, graduate Nathan Sanders (Franklin, N.C.) was able to pick up the win while senior Jonathan Duffie (Waynesboro, Ga.) turned in his first save of the year after picking up a win in the contest yesterday.

Emmanuel was able to take the first lead of the day with a solo shot in the bottom of the first but that advantage would not last long as the Trojans turned in a six-spot in the top of the second to swing the advantage to their side of the scoreboard. Following an one-out single by junior Luke Poole (Greenwood, S.C.), Anderson was able to string together back-to-back-to-back doubles by Stover, Sosa and Pandolfi to bring around three of their runs and after another base hit and a walk, chased the Emmanuel starter off the mound. His replacement didn't pan out well either as a wild pitch in the first at-bat allowed another run to cross the dish before a 2-RBI double by Wells rounded out the scoring in the frame, bringing the Trojans advantage to 6-1.

While the Trojans had a few more opportunites to add runs over the course of the contest, the Lions were able to warm-up late in the game both on the mound and at the plate, holding the Trojans scoreless while adding four more runs to their tally. It wouldn't be enough however as the Trojans were able to stop them in their tracks and secure the one run win, 6-5.

Anderson returns to the diamond on Friday, March 8 as they travel to Wingate, N.C. to take on the Bulldogs in a three-game conference series starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night.
