Trojans Stay Perfect in Conference Play With 14-6 Win Over Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – After falling behind by a goal to start the contest, the Anderson University (5-0, 3-0 SAC) women's lacrosse team rattled off four-straight goals and never again relinquished the lead as they defeated Lenoir-Rhyne (1-4, 0-2 SAC) on the road by a score of 14-6 on Saturday, March 2.

Freshman Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) led the way for the Trojans in the contest with six total points on five goals and an assist. Freshman MaKayla Ott (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), freshman Jillian LaBelle (Fleming Island, Fla.) and sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) all finished the day with three points, with the trio each scoring a pair of goals and pitching in a single assist as well. Sophomore Ava Drath (Hudsonville, Mich.) stayed perfect on the year between the pipes as she tallied six saves in cage for the Black and Gold.

Lenoir-Rhyne was able to score the first goal of the contest just over a minute into the game, but Anderson quickly responded just three minutes later with a pair of goals separated by just 38 seconds to take the 2-1 advantage. That lead would never disappear for the Trojans the rest of the way as they were able to tally two more goals in the opening quarter of action to hold the 4-1 lead. While the Bears were able to outscore the Trojans by a 2-1 margin in the second quarter, Anderson was able to carry the 5-3 advantage into the locker room at the half.

The Trojans then exploded offensively in the third quarter as they were able to post seven goals in the frame, starting with a three-goal streak that was interrupted by a LR goal, before the Trojans finished out the quarter with four more goals, all scored by different shooters, giving them the 12-4 lead. The fourth quarter was an even split frame as each squad was able to tally a pair of goals over the final 15 minutes of action, giving Anderson the win with a 14-6 final.

Anderson now hits the road to the Sunshine State for a pair on tough road contests, starting with Florida Tech on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. before wrapping up their southbound trip on Saturday, March 9 against Palm Beach Atlantic at 3:00 p.m.
