Trojans Fall 3-1 in Mid-Week Non-Conference to North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – In a contest that saw limited offensive action from both sides and only four runs cross the plate, the Anderson University (11-11) baseball team dropped a hard fought 3-1 contest to North Georgia (15-4) on the road on Tuesday, March 12.

Sophomore Luke Poole (Greenwood, S.C.) recorded the only two hits on the day for the Black and Gold, also tallying an RBI on the lone run scored for the Trojans. Senior Kye Andress (Hendersonville, N.C.) drew the only walk for Anderson in the contest as well, finding his way around the base path to score the run.

Both teams were able to make quick work through the first innings, though the Nighthawks would get a runner just 90 feet from the dish in the bottom of the first, Anderson was able to get out of the inning. A one-out walk in the top of the second followed by a hard groundout put a runner in scoring position for the Trojans with two-outs on the board. That's when Poole recorded his first of two hits in the game, driving it through the left side and bringing around the runner to give Anderson the 1-0 lead.

That lead stood until the bottom of the third inning when North Georgia scratched across a run and then took the lead in the fifth inning while holding the Trojans off the base paths until the top of the eighth when Poole was able to knock a double down the right field line, but the Trojans were unable to capitalize on the chance while the Nighthawks added a run in the bottom of the frame, securing their 3-1 win.

Anderson returns to action on Friday, March 15 as they return to conference action hosting Newberry for a three-game league series.
