Trojans Drop First Decision of the Year to No. 25 Florida Tech, 11-8

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Returning to non-conference action with a spring break trip to Florida, the Anderson University (5-1) women's lacrosse team dropped their first contest of the season as they were downed 11-8 by No. 25 Florida Tech (3-3) on Wednesday, March 6.

Freshman Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) led the way for the Black and Gold as she was able to tally four goals in the contest. Sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) chipped in a pair of goals on the day while sophomore Jackie Tiongco (Memphis, Tenn.) and freshman Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas) each added a goal to the Trojans scoreline. Freshman Kathryn McCabe (Marietta, Ga.) posted a game-high six draw controls.

The two teams were able to trade goals in the opening five minutes of action as Dobson and Cannon were able to get the Trojans on the board with the 2-2 score. Florida Tech was able to wrap up the opening quarter with three goals, including two in the final 30 second to take the 5-2 lead. Anders was able to get another goal on the board in the second, this time from the stick of Skeffington, but the Panthers added two more, taking the 7-3 advantage into the break.

The Trojans were able to come out of the break and outscore the Panthers in the third quarter, though it was slim margin of 3-2, bring the score to 9-6. Anderson tried to complete the comeback in the fourth quarter, but the Panthers matched their scoring total in the frame keeping the Trojans at bay and dealing their first loss on the year.

The Trojans continue their road trip in the Sunshine State as they take on the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, March 9 with a 3:00 p.m. first draw.
