ANDERSON, S.C.– Anderson University softball (4-8) split its doubleheader contest against Augusta (7-4) winning game one, 8-0(6) and dropping game two, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.
Game One
- Anderson outhit the Mountain Lions 9-2.
- The Trojans hit two doubles (Paige Vickery, Carson Hobbs), one triple (Lauren Brakovec), two home runs (Hannah Whitaker, Ava Worthy).
- AU led 3-0 after four innings of play while exploding for five runs in the bottom half of the sixth.
- Senior Laken Maxwell (2-4) earned the win, giving up just two hits while striking out ten. Maxwell needs 11 more strikeouts to become AU's all-time career strikeout leader.
Game Two
- Augusta scored three runs to open game two.
- The Jaguars narrowly outhit the Trojans, 8-7.
- Trojans left eight runners on base.
- Young Harris scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
- Katie Morris (1-1) suffered the loss giving up five hits and three runs. Carson Hobbs pitched the final 6.1 innings giving up three hits while striking out four.
- Seven different Trojans picked up a hit with Brakovec earning another double.
Next Up
Anderson will host nonconference opponent USC Aiken on Saturday. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
