Women’s Basketball Lands Fifth in Weekly D2SIDA Southeast Region Media Poll

DURANGO, Colo. - Following its victory over South Atlantic Conference rival Mars Hill last week, Anderson University women's basketball moved up a spot to fifth in the weekly Southeast Region Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, announced by the regional committee on Monday.

With two games on the docket for this week, the Trojans hold a perfect 2-0 record for the young season and are the last unbeaten team in the SAC. Dating back to last season, AU has won 18 straight regular-season games, including 17 straight conference matchups. Within the winning streak, the Black and Gold has claimed victories in their last nine home regular-season games.

The Trojans regain the title as the top-rated team from the SAC in the weekly poll following Carson-Newman's setback to in-state rival Lincoln Memorial last week. The setback pushed the Eagles to the sixth position to round out the SAC representation within the top-10.

Limestone holds the top spot for the third straight week, while Armstrong State moved up one position to second. Francis Marion, which has opened the year with six straight wins, sits in third, while North Georgia earned the fourth spot as three of the top-four teams are from the Peach Belt Conference.

After the SAC tandem of AU and Carson-Newman, Clayton State earned the eighth spot, while Columbus State and Emmanuel are even in ninth. Lander and Georgia College just missed the top-10 as both teams are receiving votes.

The Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, in its second year of existence. The regional poll will be released every Monday, followed by the national poll every Tuesday. Each region has six representatives that comprise the regional poll. The national poll has 16 voters - 2 from each region.

The Trojans return to action on Thursday when they welcome USC Aiken to the Abney Athletic Center for a nonconference clash. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
