Trojans Battle, Drop Series Finale to Bluefield State, 6-2

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – After already securing the series with a doubleheader sweep the day before, the Anderson University (17-15) baseball team fell just short of the series sweep as they dropped a 6-2 decision to Bluefield State (18-10) on Saturday, March 20.

The Trojans struggled at the dish in the final contest, with only three members of the squad recording a hit in the contest. Sophomore Mac Ketchin (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), freshman Zach Stover (Powdersville, S.C.) and junior Anthony Pandolfi (Hicksville, N.Y.) were each able to add to that tally on the day. Stover and sophomore Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) recorded the Black and Gold's two RBIs in the game.

Bluefield State jumped out to the early advantage in the contest as they were able to post a pair of two-run homers in the opening two innings to take a 4-0 lead. The Trojans started to chip into their advantage in the top of the third as Stover was able to drive a single to left field that brought around a run, making the score 4-1.

However, the Big Blue responded with a single run in the bottom of the frame along with their third long ball of the contest in the bottom of the seventh to further extend their advantage to 6-1. The Trojans were able to load the bags in the top of the eighth and were able to plate a run of a hard ground out by Wells, but they left runners stranded again, falling 6-2.

The Trojans return to action on Tuesday, April 2 as they host Mars Hill in a non-conference midweek match up starting at 7:00 p.m.
