Trojans Move to No. 5 in Southeast Region Media Poll

DURANGO, Colo. - As the 2015-16 regular season opened for the majority of Division II this past weekend, Anderson University women's basketball completed its preseason with its second exhibition on the schedule and dropped two spots to No. 5 in the Southeast Region Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, announced by the regional committee on Monday.

The Trojans are one of two teams within the top-10 to have not yet played a regular-season contest this season, as South Atlantic Conference rival Wingate remains in the poll but also dropped two positions to seventh. The rest of the top-10 has played at least two games following the opening weekend of the season.

Limestone still controls the top spot following its two victories against SAC opponents over the weekend, while Columbus State remained second with a pair of non-regional triumphs. Carson-Newman made the biggest leap in the poll, moving from 10th to third following its victories over USC Aiken and Lander. Catawba finished just ahead of the Trojans in fourth, as the Lady Indians also claimed back-to-back wins to open the year.

Following AU is Armstrong in sixth, while Wingate landed just ahead of Clayton State, which worked itself into the top-10 after not being ranked last week. Lander fell to the ninth position, while North Georgia makes its first appearance in the weekly poll following its victories over North Greenville and Erskine this past weekend.

Seven teams were receiving votes and just missed the top-10, as Newberry, USC Aiken and Belmont Abbey fell outside the poll.

The Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, is in its second year of existence. The regional poll is released every Monday, followed by the national poll every Tuesday. Each region has six representatives that comprise the regional poll. The national poll has 16 voters - 2 from each region.

The Trojans return to the hardwood on Saturday when they begin regular season play at archrival Erskine. Tip-off from Belk Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m.
