INDIANAPOLIS, S.C. -In the first Southeast Region rankings
released by the NCAA on Wednesday, Anderson University women's
basketball was ranked fourth.
In-state rival, Limestone, claimed the top spot in the ranking,
as it holds a 23-0 overall record while Peach Belt Conference
leaders, Columbus State and Clayton State, took the No. 2 and No. 3
positions respectively, with identical overall records of 18-4.
The Trojans are the highest rated South Atlantic Conference team
in the weekly rankings, as they hold a 17-4 overall record entering
Wednesday's road contest with Brevard. With a win, the Trojans
would clinch at least a share of first place in the SAC.
Lander was slotted fifth while Augusta landed in the sixth spot.
Carson-Newman, the other SAC representative, found the eighth spot
between PBC members Francis Marion and North Georgia. Georgia
College rounds out the top ten, as the poll was heavily laden with
PBC members, eight out of the 10 slots.
The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on
Wednesdays through March 2, with the NCAA D-II Tournament
selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 6.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the
NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the
tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference
Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large
selections.
