Trojans Come Up Short On The Road At UVA Wise; 83-74

WISE, VA. – Despite three players recording double-doubles, Anderson women's basketball (11-3, 3-3 SAC) dropped its South Atlantic Conference road contest at UVA Wise (7-9, 3-5 SAC), 83-74, on Saturday afternoon at the David J. Prior Convocation Center.

"Tough one today, " exclaimed head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "We didn't get enough stops on defense when we needed them the most, which means being able to complete the play with a defensive block out."

"Looking forward to getting back to Abney for a few homes games," added Barbaree.

Anderson was held below its overall scoring average of 80.9, shooting a season low 34% from the field while UVA Wise eclipsed the 80-point mark for only the second time this season.

UVA Wise built an early nine-point lead after the first period of action with the Trojans storming back in the second stanza to claim the one-point half-time lead, 37-36. However, the Cavaliers put together a solid third quarter, 22-11, to take back the lead heading into the final quarter of play.

Anderson made a valiant effort in the fourth, but the Cavaliers answered every push the Black and Gold made. The victory over the Trojans was the first for the UVA Wise program (1-7) which join the SAC league in 2019-20.

Senior Zamiya Passmore led the Trojans in scoring with 21 points. Passmore recorded her second double-double of the season by grabbing 10 rebounds while coming up just three assists shy of a triple-double. Senior Nelliah Wilson recorded her fifth double-double of the year scoring 20 points and rippling down a career-high 21 rebounds. Junior Diamond McDowell also got in on the double-double action recording her seventh of the season. McDowell chipped in 12 points while hauling in 11 boards. She was also credited with four assists and three blocked shots.

UVA Wise had four players reach double-figures with Sable Burnside scoring a game-high 28 points.

Anderson returns to the friendly confines of the Abney Athletic Center on Wednesday to host SAC foe Wingate. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
