JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. - Trojans Alexis Dillard and Jennifer Monroe combined to score 37 points, but Anderson was ultimately unable to overcome 22 turnovers, as Carson Newman defeated the Trojans, 81-79 in overtime, Wednesday night at Holt Fieldhouse.

Anderson (16-4, 14-3 SAC) had its four-game win streak snapped in a nip and tuck game. Carson Newman improves to 16-7 and 10-7 in the SAC moving the Eagles into a three-way tie for fifth place.

Recording her ninth double-double of the year, Monroe led all Trojans with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Dillard was perfect from the floor going 5-5 and shot 8-9 from the charity stripe to tally 18 points. Senior Madison Floyd recorded her sixth straight game scoring in double figures with a 15 point night. Floyd connected on three of Anderson's five 3-point baskets. Trojan teammate, Heather Jankowy netted 13 points and grabbed four boards while dishing out four assists. Freshman guard Tamia Eatmon pulled down nine rebounds for the Black and Gold while totaling four points, two assists and two steals in 19 minutes of play. As a team, the Trojans shot 82.8% from the free-throw line on 24-29 shooting.

"I thought we did a great job getting to the free-throw line and converting," noted Anderson head coach Jimmy Garrity.

Carson-Newman placed four Eagles in double figures. Senior Tatum Burstrom scored a game-high 22 points on 7-15 from the floor, connecting on 3 of 10 3-pointers while going 5-5 from the line. Joining their Eagle teammate was Jai Jai McLaughlin tallying 16 points, Briana Smith scoring 12 and Taylor Peterson adding 10 points.

First half action saw five lead changes and five ties and an even stat line going into halftime. The first period ended knotted at 17 apiece on Dillard's two made foul shots with a few seconds remaining to end the period. Carson-Newman led most of the second period until Anderson's Nakia Young hit a jumper at the 2:13 mark to put the Trojans ahead 34-32. The Eagles answered right back on a long range 3-point basket by Kailyn Brooks which proved to be their final basket of the half. Anderson closed out the half with a jumper by Monroe and a 3-point basket by Jankowy to go into locker room up 39-34.

Anderson saw its biggest lead of the night when Floyd hit a jumper at the 1:20 mark of the third period to put the Trojans up by 10. However, turnovers proved too costly in the second half with the Trojans committing 13 of their 22 on the night.

"We didn't do a good job of taking care of the ball, especially down the stretch. Our 22 turnovers was the difference in the game," said Garrity.

Anderson led Carson-Newman from the 1:18 mark of the second period while only relinquishing the lead on a 3-point basket by Burstrom with :36 left to play in overtime, 79-76. With :19 seconds left to play, Floyd made two foul shots pulling the Trojans back within one 79-78. With 17 ticks remaining, Carson-Newman connected on one of two foul shots pushing their lead to two. Following a missed shot and a rebound by Monroe the Trojans committed a turnover forcing Anderson to foul. With five seconds remaining, the Eagles Kailyn Brooks made the back end of the two shot foul extending lead to three. Anderson's Jankowy got a great 3-point look at the basket with one second remaining and was fouled sending her to the foul line. Jankowy connected on the first foul shot, but missed the second while intentionally missing the third. The Trojans could not convert, ending the game with an 81-79 heartbreaking overtime loss.

"I'm disappointed that we weren't able to come away with the win," said Garrity. "You have got to give Carson-Newman a lot of credit making plays and shots down the stretch." "We need to learn from this game, put it behind us and get focused for a really good Catawba team on Saturday."

Anderson returns to the hardwood on Saturday versus Catawba. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Abney Center.
