Seniors Shine During Home Win Over Lenior-Rhyne

ANDERSON, S.C. -The Anderson University women's basketball team held Lenior-Rhyne to 15 points in the first half as the Trojans defeated the Bears 61-44 in the South Atlantic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center.

Anderson (19-4, 17-3 SAC) won its third straight game to claim the season sweep over Lenior-Rhyne, while the Bears fell to 10-14 overall and 9-11 in the league snapping their two game win streak.

On an afternoon chosen to honor the seniors, the Black and Gold trio rose to the occasion. Senior Madison Floyd scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 4-of-6 from behind the arc, marking her second straight contest with four 3-point baskets. Fellow senior Jennifer Monroe netted 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds in 28 minutes of play. Senior forward Katie Davis chipped in nine points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor. Junior Heather Jankowy did her part to help the seniors shine by dishing out a game high seven assists while scoring 15 points of her own.

Lenior-Rhyne placed two players in double figures on a tough scoring night for the Bears. Senior Jasmine Stafford dropped in 12 points on 5-of-15 shooting while freshman teammate Madi Suddreth tallied 12 points for the Bears. The Bears shot a horrid 15.4 percent from behind the arc while Anderson drained 8-of-15 3-pointers for 53.3 percent for the game, marking the highest percentage by the Black and Gold on the season.

Despite the slow start, the Trojans led the game for a total of 34 minutes and seven seconds with their largest lead being 23, on a made free throw by Tamia Eatmon with 6:23 to play in the game. Eleven Anderson players recorded minutes in the 17 point victory. Sophomore Kaylee Koerperich recorded both her season highs in minutes played and points scored with six and three respectively.

The Trojans close out their regular season home contests when they welcome SAC opponent Lincoln Memorial to the Abney Center on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
