ANDERSON, S.C.– Anderson University softball (19-11) won a pair of nonconference games against Converse (14-22) to extend its win streak to 12 taking game one, 6-3, and winning game two, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.
Game One
- The Valkyries outhit the Trojans, 10-9. Four of AU's nine hits were for extra base hits (Doubles by Carson Hobbs and Hannah Whitaker, a triple by Paige Vickery and a home run by Whitaker).
- Converse took the early lead, 2-0, in the top of the first with the Black and Gold answering back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Valkyries pushed across a lone run in the second inning to claim the, 3-2, lead through two and a half innings of play.
- Anderson scored three runs in the third and added another run in the fifth to set the final score, 6-3.
- Sophomore Katie Morris got the nod pitching three innings before being lifted in favor of sophomore Carson Hobbs (1-2). Hobbs pitched the final four innings giving up four hits, no runs and striking out four to pick up her first win of the season.
Game Two
- AU outhit Converse, 6-4
- Hobbs and Vickery each record a double.
- Vickery led the sixth inning off with a double with pinch hitter Kadence Barrick hitting a single to left field to score Vickery and the eventual game-winning run.
- Graduate Morgen Baker-Celis pitched a solid five inning giving up just two hits and no runs. Senior Laken Maxwell (10-5) pitched the final two innings giving up two hits and striking out three.
Next Up
Anderson will host SAC foe Tusculum on Wednesday. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
