Women’s Basketball Signs Three for 2016-17 Season

ANDERSON, S.C. - After receiving national attention following its memorable 2014-15 season, Anderson University women's basketball head coach Jimmy Garrity has announced the signing of three players for the 2016-17 season ranging from three different states.

Garrity will welcome guards Madison Baggett (Huntsville, Ala. / Madison County), Makayla Green (Mauldin, S.C. / Mauldin) and Alexy Mollenhauer (Lindale, Texas / Caspian Academy [Azerbaijan]) for next season, as the current roster sees four seniors in Katie Davis, Madison Floyd, Jasmine Franklin and Jennifer Monroe.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Makayla, Madison and Alexy to our women's basketball program," Anderson head coach Jimmy Garrity said. "Each player is a great fit for our program and Anderson University. They all bring different and unique talents and are going to have exciting careers in a Trojan uniform."

Madison Baggett
Position: G
Height: 5-7
Hometown: Huntsville, Ala.
High School: Madison County

Baggett enters her final season with the MCHS Tigers already scoring 1,219 points for her prep career. Baggett has been named to the all-area and all-area tournament team following each of her last three seasons, while earning all-region team honors following her last two seasons. For her junior season, the guard averaged over 20 points per game and five rebounds, while shooting 75 percent from the free-throw line. Playing at the point guard position, Baggett has led the Tigers to a 70-26 record in her three seasons while making the state's Final Four once.

At the AAU level, Baggett is a member of Southern Starz where she led the team to an AAU National Championship.

Garrity of Baggett: "Madison is another great addition to our program. She has had a tremendous career for Coach Anthony Montague at Madison County High School in Huntsville, Ala. She also played for a very talented AAU program, Alabama Southern Starz coached by Doug Bush and Kent Looney where she was a huge part of their national championship team."

"Madison attended our August Elite camp where she played fantastic. She is very athletic and can play both the point guard and wing positions. She has the ability to score the basketball in a variety of ways. She has a high basketball IQ, which helps her and her teammates at both ends of the floor. I am really looking forward to watching her game develop while in a Trojan uniform."

Makayla Green
Position: G
Height: 5-9
Hometown: Mauldin, S.C.
High School: Mauldin

Green ended her junior season by leading Mauldin to a third-place finish within the region. For her efforts, Green landed on the all-region team after headlining her year with a 25-point performance against rival Byrnes. Before arriving at MHS, Green transferred from neighboring Hillcrest High School before her sophomore season.

Green is a member of SCLW-One Unit Basketball at the AAU level.

Garrity on Green: "I am excited that we were able to keep Makayla close to home. She comes from a talented Mauldin High School basketball program where she has been a tremendous leader. Coach Saylor Fox has done an outstanding job with the Mauldin program and Makayla in particular, improving not only her basketball skills, but her leadership qualities as well. Makayla also had a great summer with AAU program SCLW-One Unit coached by Ricky Hicks."

"Makayla attended our August Elite camp where we were able to see her great work ethic, athleticism and an infectious personality. She has great strength and is a tremendous on-ball defender. She has the ability to get to the paint and finish at the basket. I am really looking forward to watching Makayla's growth in our program. She is going to have a great career here at Anderson.

Alexy Mollenhauer
Position: G
Height: 5-11
Hometown: Lindale, Texas
High School: Caspian Academy (Azerbaijan)

One of the most unique recruits in program history, Mollenhauer currently resides in Baku, Azerbaijan where she is a member of the Azerbaijan National Team which placed sixth in the 2014 European Championship for Small Countries. In the tournament, Mollenhauer averaged 6.5 points per game and 3.2 rebounds. Most recently, Mollenhauer represented Azerbaijan in the FIBA 3x3 Tashkent Invitational where she led the national team to a perfect 7-0 record and the team title.

At the prep level, Mollenhauer led Caspian to three Silk Road Activities Association (SRAA) championships for her prep career. On the court, the guard averaged 26 points per outing and just fewer than 10 rebounds per game.

Garrity on Mollenhauer: "I am really excited to have Alexy join our basketball program. Her father, Scott, is her high school coach who has done an outstanding job of developing Alexy's game both offensively and defensively. Her basketball IQ is extremely high."

"I believe Alexy is going to have a terrific career here at Anderson. She has great length for a guard and can really score the basketball. She has deep range on her shot and also has the ability to drive the ball with a solid mid-range game as well as getting all the way to the basket. I am also excited about the level of toughness she will bring to our program. She is going to be exciting to watch."
