Women’s Hoops Garners Recognition in National Polls

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the season to undefeated and highly-ranked Limestone on New Year's Eve, but the Trojans continue to garner national recognition for their stellar start on the season, as they are ranked 15th in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Division II Top-25 Coaches Poll and are receiving votes in the latest Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, as released late Tuesday afternoon.

Anderson (8-1), which leads the South Atlantic Conference with an unblemished 6-0 record, saw its 22-game regular-season win streak halted by the Saints, who ironically were the last team to defeat AU with a win in last season's NCAA Sweet 16.

The Trojans jumped two spots in the Women's Basketball Coaches (WBCA) Poll, to 15th after holding the No. 17 slot in id-December. Limestone dropped two spots to 10th, while Columbus State occupied the 14th slot.

Despite their only loss coming at the hands of Limestone, which is tops in the Media Poll, the Trojans slipped from the No. 15 spot in the Media Poll while receiving 10 votes. AU is the lone South Atlantic Conference representative and joins Limestone (No. 1), Columbus State (No. 17) and Georgia College (No. 24) in the poll. The national poll has 16 voters - two from each region.

Following a five-day layoff, Anderson will get back on the hardwood Wednesday, when the Trojans square off against league foe Brevard. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.
