ANDERSON, S.C. - In the final Southeast Region rankings released
by the NCAA on Wednesday,
Anderson University women's basketball was ranked No. 5.
In-state rival Limestone claimed the top spot in the ranking, as
it holds a 27-0 overall record while Peach Belt Conference leaders,
Columbus State (22-4) and Clayton State (21-5), took the No. 2 and
No. 3 positions respectively, for the second straight week.
The Trojans are the highest rated South Atlantic Conference team
in the weekly rankings, as they hold a 20-5 overall record while
being named SAC regular season champions. The Trojans will host
Lenoir-Ryhne in the SAC quarterfinals tonight at the Abney Athletic
Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Lander moved up to the fourth spot while Francis Marion and
Augusta hold onto the sixth and seventh places. Wingate remains in
the eighth slot while North Georgia holds steady at No. 9 with SAC
member Newberry replacing Catawba in the No.10 position.
The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on
Wednesdays through March 2, with the NCAA D-II Tournament
selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 6.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the
NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the
tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference
Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large
selections.
