Trojans Wrap Up Season Opening Road Trip With 10-5 Win Over Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. — Continuing their four game road trip to start their 2024 campaign, the Anderson University (2-2) baseball team was able to take their final road match before their home opener by a score of 10-5 against Southern Wesleyan (1-3) on Tuesday, February 6.

Senior Kyle Andress (Hendersonville, N.C.) led the squad with three hits on the evening and a pair of RBIs while sophomore Mac Ketchin (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) recorded a pair of hits and two RBIs as well. Senior JC LeGrand (Lugoff, S.C.) also turned in a pair of RBIs on his lone hit in the contest. The Trojans bullpen was solid throughout the day as well with five pitchers combining for 10 strike outs and just five hits allowed.

The Warriors were able to take an early lead in the contest, posting a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. However, the Trojans were able to respond in the top half of the third with senior Carlos Hernandez (Maracay, Venezuela) and junior Luke Poole (Greenwood, S.C) each recording an RBI to bring the contest back to level pegging.

Anderson was able to take the lead in the top of the fifth as Andress knocked a solo shot over the left field wall. That lead would go away and come right back as the Warriors answered with a run in the bottom of the frame while Anderson was able to retake the lead by one in the top of the seventh. A tough play in the bottom of the seventh was able to plate two more runs for SWU to give them the lead for the last time as the Black and Gold exploded for two more runs in the eight and four in the ninth while holding SWU scoreless over that stretch to take the 10-5 win.

With the possibility of weather this weekend the Anderson home opener that is currently scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 10 could be adjusted to escape the weather. Stay tuned to AUTrojans.com for the latest information.
