Trojans Drop Midweek Contest to Mars Hill, 5-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – Returning home to a midweek non-conference affair, the Anderson University (17-16) baseball dropped a 5-1 decision to the Lions of Mars Hill (13-22) at Anderson Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, March 2.

Three members of the Trojans batting order accounted for all five of the Black and Golds hits in the contest as sophomore Mac Ketchin (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) notched one while freshman Carson Molinaroli (Summerville, S.C.) and junior Luke Poole (Greenwood, S.C.) each posted a pair in the game. Senior Nick Miller (Central, S.C.) was the high point of the Trojans bullpen on the night as he posted a trio of strikeouts in his one inning of relief.

Mars Hill used the long ball twice in the night, with the second of them giving them the lead for the final time in the contest. The Lions jumped ahead 1-0 in the first with a solo shot while adding three more in the third and another in the fourth. Anderson was able to get runners in scoring position in multiple innings, but were unable to bring more than a single run across the plate with senior Kye Andress (Hendersonville, N.C.) recording the lone RBI of the contest for the Trojans on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, wrapping up the 5-1 final scoreline.

The Trojans return to conference action this weekend as they make the trip to Jefferson City, Tenn. to take on Carson-Newman in a three-game series slated for a 3:00 p.m. start on Friday, April 5.
