Monroe, Jankowy and Dillard Earn Postseason SAC Women’s Basketball Honors

ROCKHILL, S.C. - Following its second straight regular season South Atlantic Conference championship, Anderson University women's basketball added postseason honors hardware, headlined by senior forward Jennifer Monroe's Player of the Year honor, while Heather Jankowy and Alexis Dillard landed on the All-SAC Second Team and Honorable Mention list respectively, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Monroe becomes the third Trojan in the last four years to claim the SAC Player of the Year award after former standouts Alissa Diaz (2012-13) and Sierra Simpson (2014-15) claimed the honor for the Black and Gold. In addition to being named Player of the Year, Monroe landed on the All-SAC First Team for her first postseason All-SAC honor of her career.

The Clemson, S.C. native posted six 20-point games for the Trojans and has notched double-digits in scoring in all but four contests for Anderson this season. Monroe has recorded nine double-doubles with a streak of four in a row during the middle of the season. The senior forward is currently averaging 14.8 points per outing while leading the SAC with a 50.5 percent stroke from the field and is No. 3 in the league with 156 field goals this season. Monroe also ranks No. 2 in the SAC with nine rebounds per game and is ninth in the league with 26 blocked shots this season.

Monroe has had a career high senior campaign recording her career high points made with 27 versus in-state rival Limestone in late December. One month later, Monroe pulled down a career high 18 rebounds and recorded a career high four blocked shots versus conference foe Newberry. On Feb.10 versus Carson-Newman, Monroe played a career high 39 minutes for the Black and Gold. Monroe has recorded 589 rebounds in her career placing her in the ninth spot on Anderson's All-Time Career Rebounds list. The Trojan workhorse was also named AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week on back-to-back occasions for her first and second career plaudits.

"I am so excited for Jenn to receive the conference player of the year award," said Anderson head coach Jimmy Garrity. "To lead this team in scoring and rebounding is quite a feat. She is so deserving of this recognition and it has been great to watch her transformation as a player. Jennifer has improved her game each year and it is nice to see all of the hard work and countless hours that she has put in the gym on her own time and in the summers pay off."

All-SAC Second Team honoree, Jankowy, has been the floor leader for the Black and Gold during its regular season championship run. On the year, Jankowy ranks first in the SAC with 4.3 assists per game while averaging 12.5 points and playing an average of 35.5 minutes per game for the Trojans. The Walhalla, S.C. native earned AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week honors after her stellar play versus Lincoln Memorial and Wingate back in January, extending the Trojans SAC win streak to 26 games. On the week, Jankowy averaged 22.5 points, five rebounds, and 5.5 assists.

"Heather has had a great year and she has done a fantastic job running this team," noted Garrity. "She has shot the ball well, led us in assists, and has been a great defender all year long. I am really happy for her to receive this deserving award."

Honorable mention honoree, Dillard has played a key role in the success of the Trojans this year. Dillard has recorded three double-doubles while averaging 9.6 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game.

The native from Taylors, S.C. scored a career high 18 points versus Carson-Newman on Feb. 10. while tying her career high in rebounds at Lincoln Memorial with 13. Dillard is currently eighth on the Trojans' all-time career rebound list with a total of 595 rebounds

"I am thrilled for Alexis to receive this recognition," said Garrity. "She has done a great job for us this year and she brings so much energy to this team. Alexis is a player that goes to battle every day, whether it's in practice or a game we have come expect her to bring her passion to the court and she never lets us down."

Anderson returns to action on Saturday in the SAC Semi-finals versus Lincoln Memorial. Tip-off is scheduled at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. at noon with the winner advancing to the SAC Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m.
