ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University women's basketball senior
forward Jennifer Monroe has been named to the Capital One Academic
All-District III women's basketball first team for NCAA Division
II, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of
America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon.
The five time Dean's list honoree carries a 3.78 grade point
average, while majoring in education.
"I am really happy for Jen receiving this recognition," said
Anderson head coach Jimmy Garrity. "She puts in so much time on the
court and in the classroom to be the best she can possible be. As a
coach, I am proud to see her growth as a player, leader and person.
It is great that all her hard work is paying off. This is a
tremendous accomplishment."
A native of Clemson, S.C., Monroe has played in 96 games,
starting in 65 of those games for the Black and Gold. The 5-11
forward has improved her game each of her four years in a Trojan
uniform with her senior year proving to be the most productive.
Monroe has recorded nine double-doubles while narrowly missing that
feat in two other contests. Monroe leads the South Atlantic
Conference in offensive rebounds per game while ranking third in
defensive rebounds per game and total rebounds. The versatile
forward averages both a team-high 15.1 points per game and 9.9
rebounds per game.
Monroe scored a career high 27 points versus Limestone in
December while tallying a career high 18 rebounds versus Newberry
in January. The hardworking Trojan has earned SAC Player of the
Week two times during the 2015-16 season.
Monroe was joined on the academic team by Limestone's Maurissa
Lester, Mars Hill's Ansley Ricker, Queens' McKell Oliverio, and
Columbus State's Michelle Mitchell.
