Trojans Earn Wins Over Southern Wesleyan and Benedict

ANDERSON, S.C.- Anderson University softball (2-6) earned its first two wins of the season taking game 1 from Southern Wesleyan (6-2), 2-0, and winning game 2 versus Benedict (0-4) on Friday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

Against the Warriors, AU scored solo runs in the second and fifth inning while senior Laken Maxwell (1-3) took care of business in the circle. Maxwell pitched a complete game shutout allowing just three hits and striking out 15 batters.

Benedict jumped out to a 1-0 lead before the Black and Gold answered back with four runs in the second inning, two in the third inning and two more in the fifth inning to set the final score, 8-1.

The Trojans outhit the Tigers, 9-2, with freshman Kadence Barrick hitting a triple and senior Hannah Whitaker and sophomore Shelby Bandt hitting home runs.

Graduate Morgen Baker-Celis (1-2) pitched a complete game giving up two hits while striking out 9 batters.

Anderson will play Benedict at 12 pm and Southern Wesleyan at 4 pm to wrap up the round robin tournament.
