Women’s Basketball Lands No. 24 in Preseason National Media Poll

ANDERSON, S.C. - Following its No. 3 ranking in the Preseason Southeast Region Media Poll announced on Thursday, Anderson University women's basketball was slotted No. 24 in the Preseason Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, announced by the committee on Friday.

As the final national media poll was announced prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament a season ago, the Trojans rounded out the year ranked No. 17 nationally in the poll's first year of existence. The 17th spot was the highest AU was ranked all season long.

In addition to the attention in the media poll, Anderson begins the 2015-16 season as the No. 22 ranked team in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association National Poll, which was released on Nov. 3. With both polls being released, AU is the highest rated team from the South Atlantic Conference.

Joining the Black and Gold in the poll from the Southeast Region is Limestone, which tied for seventh, and Columbus State, which earned the 12th slot. Lander, Wingate, Catawba, USC Aiken, Newberry, Armstrong State, Carson-Newman and Belmont Abbey were all receiving votes.

The Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, is in its second year of existence. The regional poll will be released every Monday, followed by the national poll every Tuesday. Each region has six representatives that comprise the regional poll. The national poll has 16 voters - two from each region.

After a stunning 79-55 victory over Division I opponent Clemson last Sunday, the Trojans look for their second straight exhibition victory over a D-I opponent this Sunday when they travel to Western Carolina. Tip-off from the Ramsey Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
