Trojans Let Late Lead Slip Away; Drop 11-9 Decision to No. 14 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Despite a trio of Trojans scoring multiple goals in the contest, the Anderson University (9-2, 5-1 SAC) women's lacrosse team let a late lead slip as they dropped their first conference contest of the year to No. 14 Limestone University (11-0, 5-0 SAC) by a score of 11-9 on Tuesday, March 26.

Sophomore Sophia Santagata (North Port, Fla.) led the Black and Gold with three goals on the day and an assist, recording four points in the contest. Freshman Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) posted a pair of goals to go along with two goals from fellow freshman Emma Toole (Pontre Vedra Beach, Fla.). Sophomore Ava Drath (Hudsonville, Mich.) posted her second straight career-high save performance, notching 12 saves in the game.

Limestone took an early lead in the opening period as they scored the first two goals of the contest to jump ahead 2-0. However, the Trojans responded quickly by posting the next three goals on the board to take the 3-2 advantage. That advantage was short lived as the Saints were able to tie up the contest again with just one second left in the opening quarter.

The second quarter is where the Trojans were able to turn in a trio of goals and jump into the lead, an advantage they were able to carry into the halftime break with a pair of goals from Santagata that boosted their advantage to 6-4.

The two squads were evenly matched in the third quarter with both teams scoring three goals in the period. However, Limestone was the only team to post a goal in the fourth quarter as they were able to overcome the Black and Golds two-goal lead and swing the contest into their favor and take the 11-9 final margin.

Anderson returns to action on Saturday, March 30 as they travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba in league action at 3:00 p.m.
