Trojans Drop SAC Opener 5-2

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson men's tennis (4-2, 0-1 SAC) was defeated by a 5-2 score against conference foe Lenoir Rhyne (4-1, 2-0 SAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Trojan Tennis Complex.

The Bears took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Sophomore Hampton Goldman and junior Mathis Collignon notched a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position between the pair of Lenoir-Rhyne wins.

Freshman Vicent Mico evened up the team score at 1-1 after a dominating 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles, but Lenoir-Rhyne fought back. Wins at No. 1 and No. 6 went their way to grab a 3-1 lead.
The fourth point was clinched at No. 5 in a third-set comeback, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Fellow freshman Sky Thavornchaisophon recorded his second win of the season, and first at the No. 3 position. The Bangkok, Thailand native won 6-3, 6-3 for AU's second team point of the match. Lenoir-Rhyne won the final match in a tight 3rd-set super tiebreaker, 11-9.

AU stays at home in SAC play to take on the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Sunday, March 3rd. The Trojan Tennis Complex will host the 1:00 p.m. matchup.
