Softball Remains Undefeated In Conference Play With Sweep Over UVA Wise

 

WISE, VA.– Anderson University softball (15-11, 6-0 SAC) moves to, 6-0, in conference play picking up two road wins at UVA Wise (11-19, 1-7 SAC) winning game one, 8-5, and defeating Wise, 2-1 in the nightcap on Saturday at Cavalier Field.

Game One

  • Anderson led, 3-0, after three innings of play with UVA Wise cutting the lead to, 3-2, after four innings. AU responded by scoring two more runs in the fifth and three in the sixth. The Cavaliers scored three runs over the fifth and sixth innings to come up short in game one.
  • Anderson outhit UVA Wise, 14-4.
  • The top of AU's order, freshman Jenna Davis, junior Maddie Carpenter, sophomore Carson Hobbs and senior Hannah Whitaker collected 10 of the 14 hits.
  • Senior Laken Maxwell (8-5) picked up the win pitching five innings. Maxwell gave up five runs on four hits while striking out eight. Sophomore Carson Hobbs earned the save pitching the final two innings. Hobbs gave up no hits and struck out four.

Game Two

  • UVA Wise outhit the Trojans, 9-6.
  • Anderson opened game two up with a lone run in the first inning of play, holding onto the lead until UVA Wise scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. AU's Carpenter hit her fifth home run of the season.
  • Junior Maggie Nauck went 3-for-4, including a double.
  • Trojans used a hit and an error in the seventh to score the winning run.
  • Graduate Morgen Baker-Celis (6-3) notched the win pitching the complete 7 innings. Baker-Celis scattered nine hits while striking out 11.

Next Up

Anderson returns home on Tuesday to host SAC opponent Limestone. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12 pm.
