ANDERSON, S.C.- Anderson University softball (3-7) defeated Benedict, 12-0 (5), and dropped a gut-wrenching, 2-1 (8), extra inning contest against Southern Wesleyan (8-2) on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

Against the Tigers, AU's bats were red-hot with the team hitting four home runs and a double. The Black and Gold pounded out 10 hits scoring 12 runs.

AU's sophomore Katie Morris (1-0) earned the win giving up just two hits and striking out 11.

In the nightcap, Southern Wesleyan and Anderson were caught up in a pitcher's duel. The Warriors broke through first with a solo run in the fourth inning. Anderson was able to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th inning with Kadence Barrick scoring from first-base on pinch-hitter Abby Hibbs single.

SWU scored in its half of the eighth inning with the Trojans stalling out to suffer the, 2-1, loss.

AU's Carson Hobbs got the nod pitching 3.2 inning and one run before being lifted in favor of senior Laken Maxwell (1-4). Maxwell pitched well, but took the loss. She recorded 4.1 innings, giving up just one-hit and striking out 12.

Senior Hannah Whitaker honored today with the David Child Hall of Fame Scholarship.

Anderson will remain at home to host Augusta on Thursday. First-pitch of the double-header is slated for noon.
