Trojans Close Homestand With 89-49 Dismantling of Lenoir-Rhyne

ANDERSON, S.C. – In a complete end-to-end dominating performance, the Anderson University (9-8, 4-5 SAC) men's basketball team handed the Lenoir-Rhyne (9-9, 4-6 SAC) their fourth straight loss, 89-49, as the Trojans completed a three-game home stand on Wednesday, January 24.

Senior Mack Burgett (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore Cole Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.) each posted double-doubles in the contest with Burgett sharing the team lead in points with 17 and pickup up 12 boards while Middleton tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Garrett Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) was the other team-leading scorer with 17 points on the night. Junior Jacksen Greco (Canton, Ga.) was lights out off the bench late for the Trojans, tallying 14 points in just 11 minutes of floor time.

After taking over a minute to find the basket for the first time the Trojans opened the contest on a 10-0 run, with each team adding a three-pointer before the first media timeout to give Anderson the early 13-3 lead. The next stretch of action turned into a defensive affair as the teams were only able to score a total of six points together, with the Trojans doubling up the Bears in the stretch extending their advantage to 17-5.

It wasn't until under 10 minutes to play in the opening half that the Bears were able to eclipse the double-digit scoring mark as Anderson continued to pour on the offense on their side of the ball, opening the advantage up to 15 with 7:53 to play. That lead ballooned to as many as 17 before the Bears started to chip into the Trojan's advantage, closing it to six multiple times, but Anderson was resilient and opened it back to a 10-point advantage at the half, 36-26.

The Trojans scoring would only go up from there as they were able to outscore the Bears by a 52-23 margin in the second half of action, bumping their advantage to 23 by the first media timeout of the second half. Halfway through the second half and the Trojans were scoring at-will, further extending their lead out to 30 points. A three-point shot by freshman Dallas Jones (Gainesville, Fla.) forced a timeout from the Bears bench with the 33 point advantage and just 7:40 to play in the contest.

Anderson outscored LR by a 19-12 margin over that final stretch of the contest, with most of the Trojans bench seeing action in the game as they wrapped up the 89-49 win.

Anderson has a one-game road trip standing between them and another two game home stand as they make the trip to Harrogate, Tenn. to take on Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, January 27.
