Trojans Fall On The Road to Railsplitters, 78-67

HARROGATE, Tenn. –  Hitting the road for a one-game trip before returning home for two straight games, the Anderson University (9-9, 4-6 SAC) men's basketball team found themselves on the unfavorable side of a 78-67 decision to Lincoln Memorial (15-5, 9-2 SAC) on Saturday, January 27.

Freshman AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) led the team with 20 points in the contest while adding a team high five assists. Sophomore Cole Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.) turned in his sixth double-double of the year as he was able to corral 11 boards to go with his 16 points. Senior Garrett Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) was the only other Trojan to eclipse double-digits, chipping in 14 points in the game.

Facing one of the perennial powerhouses of the South Atlantic Conference, the Trojans were able to hold the lead heading into the first media timeout, 8-7. After that the two teams traded points but the Railsplitters strung together a six point run to end the next four minutes of action to take the lead and put the score at 16-10 with 11:30 to play in the first.

LMU continued to open their advantage over the next stretch as the Trojans were only able to score three points over the next five minutes of the contest. Anderson was able to bring the gap back down to eight points at the half, trailing 35-27 at the break.

Throughout the second half of the contest the Trojans were able to close the gap on multiple occasions, knocking the lead down to as few as five on multiple occasions. However, each time that the Trojans were able to get back into the game, the Railsplitters would derail their comeback attempt and boost their lead pack into the double-digits. A late three-pointer with just 2:33 to play brought the gap to five for the last time, as the Trojans were only able to make two more baskets over that final stretch of action as LMU took the 78-67 win.

Anderson returns to action on Wednesday, January 31 as they welcome in Newberry to the Abney Athletic Center for a conference showdown with a 7:30 tip.
