Trojans Notch Slew of Personal Bests, Top-10 Finishes at GottaRun Invitational

CENTRAL, S.C. -- The Trojan track and field teams recorded 42 personal records over the weekend at the GottaRun Invitational hosted by Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C. 

"Both teams competed extremely well on Friday in all event groups," said head coach Kevin Eagle. "We're in the middle of a four-meet stretch over the next four weekends, so now is the time to progress each of those weels until we reach the SAC Championships in May." 

Along with personal bests, AU also recorded many Top-10 finishes across their respective events. Lacey Boozer and Joeli Hayden finished sixth and ninth respectively in the women's 100-meter race, running 12.95s and 13.14s. Boozer also notched a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter race with a time of 25.64s. 

The women's 400-meter competition saw Emma Deadwyler finish third (59.43) and Ally Macurda finish fifth (1:01.08). The Black and Gold claimed first and second place in the women's 800-meter with Brianna Quartararo's time of 2:19.64 followed by Whitaker's 2:19.99. 

Four Trojans finished in the Top-10 of the women's 1500-meter: Elise Matthews 2nd (4:57.92), Sarah Rudolph 4th (5:03.68), Mclayne Wyatt 5th (5:06.23) and Hagan Wilson 9th (5:17.55). Hannah Reedy took the top spot in the women's 5000-meter with a time of 20:16.58. 

Abby Kwansy finished 7th in the women's 400-meter hurdles, running a 1:13.17, and the women's 4x100 relay team (Hayden, Boozer, Long, Kwansy) claimed a fourth-place 51:47s finish. 

The women's high jump competition saw Georgia Piper claim first (1.60m), followed by Ally Macurda in sixth (1.40m), while the women's pole vault concluded with Trojans taking the top two spots with Kirsten Leonard and Jorja Fox both recording 3.20-meter jumps. 

Maggie Long finished tenth in the women's long jump (5.13m) and ninth in the women's triple jump (10.82m). Sarah Wimpee finished tenth in the women's shotput (10.29m), tenth in the women's discus (30.82m) and fifth in the women's hammer (38.42m). 

David Williams won the men's 5000-meter with a time of 15:54.34, while Sean McAdams won the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, recording a 9:52.67. 

Ben Molitor finished ninth in the men's 100-meter (11.02) and sixth in the men's 200-meter (22.36). Tyler Farris and Dallas Cantrell tied for a tenth-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles, both running 17.16s. 

The men's 4x100 relay team (Perry, Molitor, Mckinnie, Ussery) claimed a 42.41 fourth-place finish, and Mckinnie claimed seventh in the men's long jump (6.35m). 

The Black and Gold took two of the top three spots in the men's high jump with Simeon Respress claiming second (1.95m) and Jordan Gross taking third (1.90m). The Trojans also notched three spots in the men's pole vault Top-5: Lambdin Hardy 1st (4.50m), Lucas Pryor 4th (4.20m) and Will O'Cain 5th (4.20m). 

Gross finished fifth in the men's triple jump with a 13.12m mark, while Chase Brightharp claimed third in the men's shot put with a 12.89m throw. Blake Cooke finished fourth in the men's discus with a 40.85m throw, and Blaine Blose won the men's javelin competition with a 54.72m throw.

"We have a big weekend coming up," said Coach Eagle, "as Lee hosts one of the largest meets in the country all year."
