Trojans Finish Fourth at SAC Cross Country Championship

NEWTON, N.C. - The Anderson University women's cross-country team finished in fourth place at the South Atlantic Conference championship on Saturday (Oct. 21) at Southside Park in Newton, N.C. with a total team score of 104 points.

The No.13 nationally ranked Wingate Bulldogs won the conference championship with 33 team points, as they had five of the top nine finishers. Catawba, ranked 28th nationally, finished second with 61 points, including the top-two finishers in Madison Clay and Mikayla Jones. Lenoir-Rhyne finished third, Anderson fourth, and Lincoln Memorial rounded out the top-five.

Freshman Kennedy Roush led the way for the Trojans by finished 13th with a time of 21:27.03, while senior Emily Golden was close behind at 21:33.66 for 15th place. Sarah Rudolph took 24th at a pace of 21:57.73. Lucy Schmitt (22:14.19) and Emma Whitaker (22:15.32) ran step-by-step for 30th and 31st, respectively. Faith Nelson finished just outside the top-30 with a time of 22:34.89. Hannah Reedy (23:40.74), Mclayne Wyatt (23:54.07), and Hagan Wilson (24:40.66) rounded things out for the Trojans.

"Today was not one of our best days out on the course for both teams," said coach Kevin Eagle. "We just have to learn from the mistakes we made today and learn to challenge ourselves more in the middle of the race when it gets tough. We have two weeks to change our mindset and push ourselves to see how good we truly are."

The Trojans will be back in action on November 4th for the NCAA Southeast Regional in Oakwood, Georgia. The top three teams will clinch a spot in the NCAA National Championship. More information can be found at autrojans.com as the meet approaches.
