Women's Cross Country Finishes Second at Converse Kickoff

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Anderson University women's cross country team finished second in the Converse Kickoff Classic on Saturday (Sept. 16) to open up the 2023 season. Emory University edged out Anderson to win the meet with a score of 46 and total team time of 1:55.09. The Trojans finished with a score of 50 and time of 1:55.58.

"It was great to finally see some outside competition for the first time this season," said coach Kevin Eagle. "We have been training hard for over a month, so it is always nice to get on a course and race. Both teams have a lot of work to do to progress to where we want to be at the end of the year. We are all excited about the process!"

Freshman Kennedy Roush impressed in her collegiate debut as she finished fourth in a time of 22:46.8. Elise Matthews (23:01.1) and Sarah Rudolph (23:04.3) ran step-by-step to finish 7th and 8th place respectively. Senior Emily Golden finished just outside of the top-10 at 11th with a pace of 23:20.5.

Sophomores Emma Whitaker (23:45.4) and Lucy Schmitt (24:10.5) took 20th and 29th, with senior Faith Nelson coming in the top-30 with a time of 24:11.7. Mclayne Wyatt (24:47.7), Hagan Wilson (25:43.2), Hannah Reedy (26:23.4), Madison Crumley (27:00.4), and Hannah Williams (29:45.7) rounded things out for the Trojans.

The Trojans will be back in action on September 30th for the NCAA Regional Preview in Oakwood, Georgia. More information can be found at autrojans.com as the meet approaches.
