Women’s Golf in Second Place at Findlay Spring Invite with Play Suspended Midway Through Second Round

LEXINGTON, Ky. – With play suspended due to darkness midway through Monday's second round, the nationally fifth-ranked Anderson women's golf team is in second place at the Findlay Spring Invite.

The Oilers are hosting the two-day, 54-hole tournament on a 6,048 yard, par-72 University Club of Kentucky Big Blue Course layout.

"I am very happy with the way we played today," said Anderson Head Women's Coach Denton Moore. "The conditions were extremely tough. It was cold and windy all day long. We really just had trouble with 2-3 holes. The girls worked extremely hard out there. There was nothing easy about the golf that was being played today. We only got 29 holes in, so we have 27 more to go tomorrow. We start on the toughest six holes on the course in the morning. I believe if we can get off to a good start on those holes tomorrow, it will set a great tone for us going into the final round. We can absolutely win the golf tournament tomorrow. I can't wait to get out there tomorrow and get back to work with the girls."

The host and sixth-ranked Oilers lead the Trojans by five shots heading into Tuesday's action, while Tiffin is four strokes further back in third place. Missouri – St. Louis is in third place, with Limestone holding fifth place. Ferris State and Grand Valley State are sixth and seventh, respectively, with Walsh holding the eighth slot.

Ohio Dominican and Illinois-Springfield share ninth place, while Saginaw Valley and Northern Michigan are 11th and 12th, respectively. Northwood, Maryville, Davenport, Lewis, Trevecca Nazarene and Purdue-Northwest rounded out the 18-team field.

Tiffin's Lisa Marie Schumacher leads Findlay's Gabby Woods and Jill Schmitmeyer by three strokes heading into Tuesday, with AU sophomore Kennedy McGaha just four shots off the pace in third place, alongside Schmitmeyer and UMSL's Tove Brunell.

UMSL's Wilma Zanderau and AU's Kennedy Gooding are tied for sixth place, while junior Jessica Rathbone shares 10th place. Grad student Kerington Lamb is currently tied for 15th, with sophomore Zoey Iglesias and senior Emma Charles tied for 18th place.
