Womens Golf Wraps Up Invitational in Third Place

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Another challenging day at Cobbs Glen Country Club saw Anderson finish the AU Invitational tied for third with Lincoln Memorial as the uncompromising links did not allow a single golfer to score better than four-over par in the final round Tuesday afternoon. The Trojans had three golfers post top-10 finishes, with sophomore Laura Buyers pacing the Black and Gold. The Aledo, Texas native, who played as an individual, shaved an impressive seven strokes off her opening-round for a 161 (84-77) to finish the tournament in fourth place at +17. Hayley Parks turned in the team's second-best score of the two-day event with a 165 (81-84) to wrap the event in the seventh spot. Sophomore Kalyn Johnson finished just one stroke back, in a tie for eighth place after carding a 166 (85-81) for the two days. Sophomore Lindsay Parks earned a share of 17th place by slicing nine strokes off her first-round score (91-82=173). "We played much better today," Anderson head coach Danny Neal said. "We improved by several shots and moved up a spot [to third]." Sophomore Anna Jenks turned in a 12-over 84 in her final round to finish the event in a tie for 22nd place overall, while senior Caroline Seymour wrapped the tournament at 176 (+32) tied for 24th. Sophie Dembroski rounded out the scoring for Anderson, posting an 87 on Tuesday to finish the event at a 33-over 177, giving her a share 26th place at the event. The Trojans are back in action Monday and Tuesday at the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Intercollegiate, at the Meadowland Golf Course in Calabash, N.C.
