Webb Posts Career-High; Trojans Fall To Southern Wesleyan 75-72

ANDERSON, S.C. – Junior Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) posted a career-high 16 points in the contest, but the Anderson University (4-4) men's basketball team dropped a tightly contested game to the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan 75-72 in the Abney Athletic Center on Wednesday, December 6.

Senior Garrett Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) and junior Luke Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) both hit double digits in points scored on the evening as Garrett recorded 13 with Luke adding 11. Senior Mack Burgett (Richmond, Va.) was a single-point off of a double-double on the night as he was able to bring in 10 rebounds to go with his nine points. He was also second on the team with five assists with freshman AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) leading the squad with six.

For the first time in last few games the Trojans found themselves behind in the early goings, but a clutch three-point shot by Garrett Denbow swung the advantage to the home side of the scoreboard at the first media, 7-5. However, the Anderson offense was able to get rolling over the next four minutes in contrast to the opening four minutes, with the Trojans outscoring the Warriors 8-2 over the next stretch.

At the next media timeout the Trojans had extended the lead out to double-digits for the first time in the contest as they were in control of the game, leading 26-14. Southern Wesleyan continued to battle however as they were able to bring the margin to just two in the late goings of the opening half. Anderson stretched the lead back out to five late in the half and kept it at that spread heading into the locker room at 41-36.

Quick work from the Trojans allowed them to more than double their lead as they second half started, jumping back out to an 11 point advantage at 50-39. They kept their double-digit lead intact until just before the under-12 media timeout, with Southern Wesleyan knocking down a jump shot to drop the lead to just eight.

With just six minutes to go in the second half, Southern Wesleyan finally evaporated the Anderson lead at 64-64, but Anderson responded immediately with four points of their own to retake the advantage. Every time the Trojans looked like they were going to pull away, the Warriors were able to battle back eventually taking the lead for themselves at 73-72 with just under two-minutes to play. The Trojans were able to get off three more shots over the closing stretch of the game, but none were able to find the bottom of the net while SWU added a pair of points off free-throws to secure their 75-72 win over Anderson.
