Trojans Late Comeback Falls Short Against Johnson C. Smith

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second straight game the road has been unkind to the Anderson University (3-2) men's basketball team as their second-half comeback bid fell just short of Johnson C. Smith on Tuesday, November 21 as they dropped the 93-85 decision to the Golden Bulls.

Sophomore Luke Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) led the team with 19 points while freshman Dallas Jones (Gainesville, Fla.) was able to pitch in 15 of his own. Senior Garrett Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) corralled a team-high six boards in the contest to go with his 12 points while he tied with fellow senior Mack Burgett (Richmond, Va.) with one block. Burgett also tallied 12 points in the contest.

Anderson had a tough time from the floor in the opening minutes of action as the Golden Bulls were able to jump out to a 13-2 lead in the early goings of the game. It wasn't until the 8:46 mark in the first half when the Trojans were able to crack the double-digit mark on the scoreboard as they trailed 25-12.

The final stretch of the opening stanza was much kinder to Anderson as they were able to score 17 more points in the final eight minutes of action, though they would still trail 48-29 heading into the halftime break.

That momentum from the end of the first half carried in to the second for the Trojans as though the Golden Bulls were able to increase their lead slightly over the opening minutes, the offense for the Trojans had found their stride and was able to keep pace with them. Trailing by 20 at the under-12 media, the Trojans were able to start chipping away at that advantage as they were able to get that margin to as low as 13 over the next four minutes.

The real push from Anderson came in the final two minutes of the contest as they were able to shrink the lead back to single digits. Unfortunately, seven points would be as close as they could get to the Golden Bulls down the stretch, taking the 93-85 loss in the end.

Anderson returns to action on Saturday, December 2 as they open South Atlantic Conference action on the road at Tusculum with a 4:00 p.m. tip.
