HARROGATE, Tenn. - Junior Charlotte Sieber's third single of the afternoon scored Bri Cason from third with what proved to be the winning run, as the Anderson softball team rallied, then held off Lincoln Memorial, 7-6, Monday afternoon at Neely Field.

In the completion of a game that was replayed from the top of the third inning with senior catcher Laura Jansky at second base with two outs and the Trojans trailing 5-3, Anderson rallied for four runs in the final two innings to improve to 33-9 overall and 10-4 in the conference. The Trojans, who have already clinched a berth in the eight-team conference tournament later this month, moved into a tie for first place in the league standings with Tusculum by claiming their third consecutive win.

Lincoln Memorial slipped to 26-19 overall and 6-10 in the conference, and saw its win streak halted at four.

In addition to her three singles and game-winning RBI, Sieber also scored a run. Cason, a sophomore, added two singles and was hit by a pitch in the seventh to reach base prior to crossing the plate. Junior Bailey Smith was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, while junior Danielle Swygert blasted her fifth homer of the season, a three-run shot in the sixth that gave AU its first lead of the game. Sophomore Jessica Neidigh finished the contest 2-for-5, with a double and a single. Jansky added a third-inning two-run double.

Junior right-hander Lauren Bell (18-4) earned the complete-game win, surrendering six runs on 11 hits, while striking out one and walking one. Kirsten Toole (5-4) absorbed the loss for the Lady Railsplitters, tossing four innings of relief and surrendering five runs (one earned) on six hits. She struck out two and walked one.

Neidigh led off the contest with a double and Danielle Swygert walked with two outs, putting a runner in scoring position for the Trojans in the top of the first, but AU was unable to capitalize.

LMU recorded four hits in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Brianna Mulkey, Kelly Dreier and Amanda Snow singled in consecutive at-bats and Sarah Walz brought the first run home with a fielder's choice. Laura Taricano was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat to force another run home, while Kirstin Toole and Cierra Mudd capped the scoring with a pair of RBI-singles.

The Lady Railsplitters added another run in the bottom of the second, as Mulkey, who reached safely on a one-out single, came around to score on a Trojan miscue.

Anderson cut into LMU's lead with three unearned runs in the third to trim the deficit to 5-3. A wild pitch allowed Neidigh to score after she had singled and both Molly Child and Swygert crossed the plate on Jansky's two-out double to left-center.

Following the resumption of the contest on Monday afternoon, neither team was able to push a run across the plate until the Trojans plated three unearned runs on Swygert's two-run homer over the fence in right-center. Sieber led off the inning by reaching on an error and Molly Child also reached base on an error before Swygert's blast.

Cason was hit by a pitch to lead off the final inning, moved to third on Samantha Young's double down the left-field line and scored on Sieber's single.

Lincoln Memorial climbed within 7-6 in their final at-bat, after Snow led off with a walk and moved into scoring position when Walz bounced to Swygert at first. Laura Taricano followed with a single to put the tying run at first, and Toole added a single to plate Snow and move Taricano to second with still just one out. Mudd then fouled out to Jansky in foul territory for the second out, and as the runners tried to tag up and advance Taricano was called out on interference to end the contest.

The Trojans wrap up their conference slate with back-to-back road doubleheaders at Newberry on Wednesday and at Tusculum on Saturday. Anderson closes the regular season by playing host to Erskine on Monday, April 15, at Smethers Field.
